On April 1, 2007 legislation allowing the Canada Revenue Agency to withhold refunds or rebates from corporations that had outstanding T2 tax returns became effective. However, tax-exempt incorporated organizations are excluded from this legislation even if they have outstanding T2 returns. These organizations may include universities, schools, hospitals and federal crown corporations. For more detailed information, see the Canada Revenue Agency website here.
